STANDARD CONSTRUCTION | Casegoods
Casegoods are the height of woodcraft, and we’re specialists in the challenge. Please note that the below construction method is flexible as requested and agreed upon with our craftsmen and women.
The BFA Family | Orders + Requests | The Made-to-Order Process
TOP
Solid hardwood boards, kiln-dried, hand-selected, laminated* and finely sanded to a finished inch thick. The “Prairie” design includes 1 1/2″ overhangs on three sides, while the “Flatiron” can include 1″, 1/2″ or flush top.
CASE + SHELVES
Kiln-dried hardwood and FSC-certified panels. “Prairie” designs are quintessentially Shaker, with frame-and-panel cabinetry, mortise-and-tenon joined over arched wood aprons. Contemporary “Flatiron” designs are made with solid sides over a recessed/floating wood or steel base. Steel bases are hand-welded and available in waxed or powdercoated finishes.
DRAWERS + DOORS
Dovetailed drawers are each equipped with a pair of full-extension glides with soft-close or push-to-open motion. Grain-matched fronts flow across every column of drawers. Wood-on-wood joined doors swing on concealed soft-close European cup hinges.
FINISH
Clients love our hand-rubbed oil finish for so many reasons that it has its own page. Stains and alternative finishes available upon request.
*Lamination is the heirloom standard for joining solid wood boards to form a cabinet top. There are no synthetic or composite materials used. Raw woods are milled into boards, kiln-dried, individually evaluated and matched for each table, aligned, glued and clamped, planed, sanded and finished to perfection.
